From uplifting personal stories to insightful commentary on respecting our differences, this powerful conversation provides inspiration to carry on Dr. King’s legacy. TRANSCRIPTION (AI transcription software was sued to convert spoken language into written text)David: I'm honored to be joined this week by Dr. Ben Carson. Ben is a groundbreaking neurosurgeon who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021. You might recall he was also a candidate for president in the 2016 Republican primaries. Currently, he's the chairman of the American Cornerstone Institute and an author of several books, including his new and most timely book, Created Equal.Mr. Secretary, Dr. Carson. Welcome to the podcast.Ben: Thank you. I'm delighted to be with you in yourDavid: books gifted hands and created equal. You shared some of your humble beginnings and background arising from poverty in Detroit and Boston, including incidents of clear racism with threats to schooling, playing football and honors received. You also mentioned how you were able to get some surprising, mystical and extraordinary gifts. A note after falling asleep, traveling with your wife, Candy going 90 miles an hour in a car earlier in your life. Our dream helped you through a key test while at Yale. In addition, as well as the difficult surgeries and political tax on faith.Dr. Martin Luther King said, trouble will come upon you. Disappointment will rain on your door. Like a tidal wave. If you don't have a deep and patient faith. It ain't gonna make it. How important has faith been in your life? And how has it navigated you through such as these difficult situations into becoming the expert worldwide neurosurgeon that handled conjoined twins and other extraordinarily difficult situations?Ben: I would dare say that I couldn't do any of that without the incredible faith that has brought me through so many trials. I hearken back to The fact that I had a horrible temper and I would just go fly off the handle and want to seek revenge, harm people, regardless of the consequences. It was after such an incident where I tried to stab another teenager with a camping knife that I was locked in the bathroom and I was thinking about my life.I turned things around academically very significantly, but I knew I would never achieve my dream of becoming a doctor with a temper like that. I would end up in jail, reform school, or the grave, and I just said, Lord, I can't control my temper. And there was a Bible there, and I picked it up, and there were all these verses in the book of Proverbs about anger, and also about fools, and it all seemed like they were written about me.For three hours, I prayed and contemplated and read, and it dawned on me during that time, it was always about me, my, and I. Somebody did this to me, they took my thing, I want this. I said, if you learn how to step out of the center of the equation, let it be about somebody else. You won't be angry. That was the last day I had an angry outburst. And I recognized at that point, God was real. He was more than somebody you learned about in church. And it really changed my life. And I began to really depend on him at that point in time. And it's been something that has gotten me through so many trials. When I was a first year medical student.I did poorly on the first set of comprehensive exams, and I was sent to see my counselor who said, You seem like a very intelligent young man. I bet

He is author of bestselling books: Gifted Hands, Think Big, A More Perfect Union, The Big Picture, America the Beautiful, and Created Equal. The discussion on America's Roundtable focuses on Israel's war against Iran-backed Hamas, Iran's proxies attacking US facilities, and the significance of America's sacrosanct ties with Israel. Dr. Carson addresses the rise of anti-Semitism in America. The conversation brings to the forefront the successful Abraham Accords and the urgency to hold to account Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. For a time, the likelihood of Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming a physician seemed unlikely. Growing up in a single parent home with dire poverty, poor grades, a horrible temper, and low self-esteem appeared to preclude the realization of that dream until his mother, with only a third-grade education, challenged her sons to strive for excellence. She observed successful people and encouraged her sons to emulate their behaviors, including reading. This led to behavior changes which had a profound effect on their education. In 1973, Ben Carson graduated from Yale University. He went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. At the age of 33, Dr. Carson became the chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, making him the youngest major division director in the hospital’s history. This would be among an extensive list of outstanding firsts for Dr. Carson. Dr. Carson’s accomplishments have earned him a place in medical history. He performed the first and only successful separation of craniopagus (Siamese) twins joined at the back of the head in 1987. He also performed the first fully successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus twins in 1997 in South Africa. In his career, Dr. Carson became a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for over 29 years. He became the inaugural recipient of a professorship dedicated in his name in May 2008. He is now the Emeritus Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. and Dr. Evelyn Spiro, R.N. Professor of Pediatric Neurosurgery, having retired on June 30, 2013. In 2016, Dr. Carson accepted the position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Trump administration. After completing his tenure as the 17th Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2021, Dr. Carson founded the American Cornerstone Institute. INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE: “This too will pass; people need to understand. It will come and it will go.” – Dr. Carson “We have to recognize that, by shutting down the whole country, we also have some significant economic consequences. So, we’re going to have to fashion solutions that take everything into account. We don’t want to destroy one area to say that we’ve succeeded in another area.” – Dr. Carson “People should understand that each one of us plays a significant role.” – Dr. Carson “People must take the social distancing very seriously.” – Dr. Carson “Act as if you have the virus at all times, and you’ll do the right thing.” – Brian Buffini “Having a place that you can call your own, a place that you can go to and be supported – you can’t put a value on that. It’s so vitally important. That peace of mind allows you to grow and to plan.” – Dr. Carson “Homeownership is the number one mechanism of wealth accumulation in this nation.” – Dr. Carson “It’s very important for people to understand that we’re in a radically different place going into this crisis than we were with the mortgage crisis.” – Brian Buffini “This is a blip. This too will pass. The fundamentals remain the same; they are still strong.” – Dr. Carson “I think once this is all over, you’re going to see a continuation of improvement in the market.” – Dr. Carson “We do still have shortages of course, in particular with existing homes and it’s going to take a while for us to rectify that situation, but it’s all moving in the right direction.” – Dr. Carson “While none of us wanted this to happen and hope it ends quickly, thankfully it’s during a rather strong housing market.” – Commissioner Montgomery “The key thing we want to make sure that people understand is that no-one should lose their home as a result of this.” – “Commissioner Montgomery “We wanted to stop in their tracks any foreclosures or evictions that were going on. But we also wanted to emphasize to people that we have a relationship with the services and we asked them to exercise forbearance.” – Dr Carson “If you foresee an issue with your mortgage payment, you need to contact your servicer and they will work with you.” – Dr. Carson “You still have to contact your lender if you think you’re going to miss a payment or get behind on a payment.” – Brian Buffini “People should not be embarrassed. Recognize that this is a widespread problem. Your neighbor may look like they’re very prosperous, but really they’re thinking the same thing you are.” – Dr. Carson “We recognize that we have an obligation to the people that we se

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/250136 to listen full audiobooks. Title: A Doctor in the House: My Life with Ben Carson Author: Candy Carson Narrator: Candy Carson Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 6 hours 28 minutes Release date: January 5, 2016 Genres: Law & Politics Publisher's Summary: “The life of a neurosurgeon isn’t an easy one, and Ben has been required to go above and beyond the call of duty almost constantly. The life of a neurosurgeon’s wife isn’t much easier. But it’s all been worth it. Together, we’ve been through poverty, tragedy, wealth, and joy, and we’ve had each other’s backs. I love that guy!” —CANDY CARSON Like most Americans, you might think of Ben Carson as a trailblazing brain surgeon and, in the last few years, as an outspoken commentator on national issues. But his wife of more than forty years knows him as so much more: a loving husband, a devoted father, a devout Christian, a committed philanthropist, and a fierce patriot. Now Candy Carson introduces us to the private side of a very public figure as she shares the inspiring story of their marriage and their family. Like her husband, Candy grew up in Detroit, one of five children of a teacher and a factory worker. Also like Ben, she overcame her humble background through determination, hard work, and perseverance, earning a scholarship to attend Yale University. In that strange new world she focused on her studies, her music, and her deepening spiritual life. She attended church with a handsome older student who liked to tease her, but never assumed he would be anything more than a friend to her. But Ben and Candy quickly became inseparable, and they married soon after she graduated, with Ben still in medical school, preparing for his career as a soon-to-be world-famous pediatric neurosurgeon. In A Doctor in the House, Candy reveals many stories that have never been told before, despite the media spotlight on Dr. Carson in recent years. She shows us what it was like when they moved to Baltimore to join the community centered around Johns Hopkins Hospital. She describes how their family evolved with the births of their three sons and the tragic miscarriage of their twins. She talks about the challenges of Ben’s twelve- to twenty-hour workdays, saving thousands of lives every year while Candy ran the household. She also addresses the prejudice they sometimes faced as African Americans, and how Ben’s calm, levelheaded approach made him a great problem solver at home and in their travels, just as he was in the operating room. Above all, she reveals her husband’s consistency as a believer: in God, in family, and in America. Having lived the American Dream, Ben believes every child from every background is capable of achieving it. That’s why he and Candy have been committed to educating and inspiring young people and over the past twenty years have awarded more than 6,700 students with scholarships through their Carson Scholars Fund. A Doctor in the House is a classic American love story—and that story is far from over. As Candy writes, “We don’t know what God has for us next, but we’re ready to follow. . . . As we head forward into the un-known once more, I thank God for putting us together.'
