- Daily Puck Drop: Geno injury scare. Hawks control playoff destiny. Mateer not a "Coug forever." Guests: Danny Kelly, The Ringer. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com
Tuesday’s edition of the Daily Puck Drop with host Jason “Puck” Puckett and his weekly Tuesday guests, Danny Kelly, The Ringer and John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com . Today’s show covers the health of Geno Smith, John Mateer, problems with the transfer portal, why the NFL hates Bill Belichick and the Seahawks playoff chances. Puck opens the show with the news on Geno Smith and his health. Good news for Seattle because as Puck noted, you don’t want to see Sam Howell play. Another Washington State player hits the portal and the latest moves has Puck worked up because the agent for Fa’alili Fa’amoe tried to extort the collective and the coaches. Three games remain for Seattle and they still control their own destiny. Danny Kelly, The Ringer, joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his weekly chat about the NFL, Seahawks and fantasy football advice. Danny and Puck joke that the Hawks are back to sucking after their Packers loss. Both agree that they expected the loss, but not in that fashion. Sure appears the 49ers are done and could Kyle Shanahan be on his way out? Would they consider trading him to the Chicago Bears? Are they really going to pay Brock Purdy top quarterback money?? what arch is the right fit for Caleb Williams? Sure feels Kliff Kingsbury will get another shot in the NFL and it could be with the Bears. Puck contends that USC would love for Lincoln Riley to jump to the NFL and join the Bears. Bill Belichick is at North Carolina because no one wanted him in the NFL…why? NFL teams don’t want to give up power to an ego maniac. Football season winding down and that means fantasy football playoff time. Danny updates on the best last second waiver wire pickups for your playoff push. Lastly, they put another NFL figure on The Barge…who is it this week? The John Canzano Show with Jason “Puck” Puckett starts off with the decision by John Mateer to leave Washington State and enter the transfer portal. The move is a big loss for the Cougars but is it the right move for college football? John has intel on the reported offers for Mateer and they were out of reach for the Cougars. Should we be upset that Mateer left Pullman? All signs are pointing to Mateer landing in Oklahoma. Rumors of tampering have run rampant associated with Mateer and Oklahoma. How do we fix the transfer portal? Canzano shares his ideas on to fix the system and why it’s currently broken. The girlfriend of Travis Hunter is receiving heat online. John shares he’s a little concerned about Hunter’s future in the NFL and who he surrounds himself with. Washington and Oregon fans are upset about their Big 10 schedule in 2025. Canzano says the Huskies and Ducks have zero reason to complain or be upset. Finally, “Hey, What the Puck?!” Puck wants Cougar fans to stop posting a picture of Mateer on social media and saying, ‘Coug Forever.’
- Daily Puck Drop: Seahawks ground attack gets harder. Winter meetings heating up. Mateer future. CFP issues. Not being a team player. Guests: Danny Kelly, The Ringer. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com
On today’s Daily Puck Drop , Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by his weekly guests, Danny Kelly, The Ringer and John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com . Today’s show includes discussion on the Seahawks continuing their running attack even as the opponents get tougher. Did the college football playoff committee get it right? Winter meeting updates from Dallas. What are the Mariners up to? Puck opens up the show discussing the challenges of facing the Green Bay Packers and their stout run defense. Can the changes they made to their scheme and offensive line continue? The health of Ken Walker is a concern. The winter meetings are underway in Dallas, what are the Mainers doing? Danny Kelly, The Ringer , joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his weekly discussion about the NFL, Seahawks and fantasy football. Danny agrees with Puck that the offensive line was the number one factor to why the Seahawks offense looked so much better this past week against Arizona. Can their new ground attack and line hold up against the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings? What did we make of Zach Charbonnet’s performance and can we see more of him and Ken Walker together on the field? What is the ceiling for the Seahawks, Danny shares his thoughts and it may surprise you. Do we root for Russell Wilson to have success? Puck sounds off on A.J. Brown and puts him on The Barge . Danny’s choice for The Barge is Kirk Cousins. Finally, Danny updates you on last second waiver wire picks for fantasy football with the season winding down. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com joins Jason “Puck” Puckett to discuss the latest in college football. Did the Oregon Ducks get screwed over by the college football playoff committee? What changes would you make to the committee and how the selection process works? What coach and team do the guys trust the most drug the playoffs. Is Oregon the favorite to win the whole thing? Was Georgia coach Kirby Smart correct with his complaints that the SEC punished the Bulldogs this year with their schedule? What changes would John make to the Heisman Trophy? Of the finalists, who does he thing will win? Should John Mateer been included? Lastly, John reflects back on a touching story he wrote about an elderly couple that were daily readers. Finally, Puck wraps up the show with “Hey, What the Puck!?” Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown is everything that is wrong about athletes in a team sport.
- Daily Puck Drop: Jake Dickert is not wrong. Seahawks are forgiven for now. Ichiro Hall of Fame. Guests: Danny Kelly, The Ringer. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com
On Tuesday’s Daily Puck Drop , Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by his weekly guests, Danny Kelly, The Ringer and John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com . Puck opens up the show discussing the comments from WSU coach Jake Dickert about Oregon State not being their “buddies.” Puck shares his thoughts that some fans that are upset with the comments are off base. The Seahawks were gifted a favor in their win over the 49ers because the officials screwed up a timeout that should have been a penalty. Danny Kelly, The Ringer , joins Jason “Puck” Puckett to rap about the NFL, Seahawks, the Legion of Boom, Earl Thomas and fantasy football. Danny and Puck both agree that the Seahawks season is so dumb and fun at the same time and they went from a week ago thinking the season was over to now looking ahead to this week and knowing they have a shot at first place in the NFC West! Earl Thomas is back! Puck and Danny go down the rabbit hole of talking about the Legion of Boom. Devon Witherspoon is the closest thing to the L.O.B. that they have had since that group was on the field. Expectations have now changed for the Seahawks and it’s incredible to watch and follow this team week in and week out. The Seahawks can be in first place this weekend which is incredible to think of! The Jets are still a disaster and Aaron Rogers has fired another member of the team. Puck and Danny have put Rogers on “The Barge” out to the pacific ocean. Where does Danny want Deion Sanders to land in the NFL next season? Danny also answers fantasy football questions with “Waiver Wire Tuesday.” John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his weekly chat about all things college football. They jump right into the discussion about Jake Dickert’s comments about Oregon State. Was he in the wrong about what he said? Jake Dickert has other problems on the field, specifically in regards to his defense and offensive play calling. Puck this a change needs to be made with his defensive coordinator and suggests that Dickert take over the play calling. In regards to the offense, is the “Air Raid” truly the offense that Dickert wants? Does it properly take advantage of the skill set of John Mateer? Oregon survived against Wisconsin. John points out that it’s a tired football team. John also shares his thoughts on the matchup between Oregon and Washington in two weeks. John thinks it will be a blowout. Will Jedd Fisch turn to Demond Williams against Oregon or stick with Will Rogers? Is the SEC truly the best conference in football and do they deserve the majority of the teams? Lastly, since Puck is off next week, John offers up his favorite Thanksgiving meals. Finally, Puck wraps up the show with “Hey, What the Puck!?” Fans need to calm down about the Jake Dickert comments about Oregon State. He was right. He said the uncomfortable truth out loud and people don’t like hearing it.
- Daily Puck Drop: John Schneider miserable offseason. Cost of John Mateer. Can WSU afford him? Guests: Danny Kelly, The Ringer. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com
On today’s Daily Puck Drop , Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by Danny Kelly, The Ringer and John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com . Puck opened up the show asking the question, was this past season the worst offseason under John Schneider? With the release of Tyrel Dodson, aren’t the Seahawks just signaling that they are truly rebuilding? Danny Kelly, The Ringer joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his weekly visit talking Seahawks, NFL and fantasy football. Danny ponders the question that Puck asked about John Schneider’s offseason. Was this the worst one under his tenure? If the Seahawks are headed to a rebuild in the offseason, should they commit dollars to D.K. Metcalf and Geno Smith? If they do move on from Geno, what are there options in the draft. Danny details the upcoming draft class for quarterbacks. Puck asks Danny, if the Seahawks lose their next two games to the 49ers and Cardinals, would they be best served to lose their remaining games to get better draft position? Danny makes a compelling argument against that strategy. It’s a Waiver Wire Tuesday, and Danny shares with Puck the best pickups in fantasy football. They wrap up their segment with their weekly feature, “Barge of the Week.” They put a player, coach, team or front office NFL personnel on a barge and send them out to the Pacific Ocean. Danny put Jerry Jones on the barge and Puck went with John Schneider. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his weekly look into college football. They jump right into the discussion surrounding WSU quarterback John Mateer. What would he fetch money wise in the transfer portal? John estimates that the going rate for a top QB is over a million dollars. Can the Cougs afford to keep Mateer around? Does he get a sense that Mateer wants to look elsewhere or is he happy in Pullman? Should Jedd Fisch move on from Will Rogers and start Demond Williams the rest of the season. The Huskies are not going to a major bowl game so why keep playing Rogers? John and Puck both agree that the NIL has something to do with the decision surrounding Rogers. What are the expectations for the Cougars and the college football rankings tonight and what type of chaos do they need in front of them to sneak in to the CFP. John was on the scene in Utah covering the “Holy War” between Utah and BYU. He reacts to the scene where the Utah AD claims that the game was stolen from them. Utah does not have an exit fee and can leave the Big 12 any time they want, would they jump and come back to the Pac-12? John dishes on those chances. Lastly, John and Puck talk about the passing of former Blazers broadcaster Brian Wheeler. A gentle and troubled sole. Finally, Puck wraps up the show with “Hey, What the Puck?!” Puck discusses the situation in Chicago with Caleb Williams. It’s why it’s so important to have the right coaching staff in place when you select a quarterback of the future in the first round.
- Daily Puck Drop: Don't be a Jim Moore, root for UW to win. Fair to question Mike Macdonald hire. Guests: Danny Kelly, The Ringer. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com
On today’s Daily Puck Drop , Jason “Puck” Puckett was joined by his weekly guests, Danny Kelly, The Ringer and John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com Puck starts off the show talking about the Washington State Cougars chances of making the College Football Playoffs as the first rankings come out on Tuesday night. Puck reacts to the show on Monday where Jim Moore, the Go-2-Guy, would rather see the Huskies lose all their games rather than win, which would help out the Cougars. Puck thinks Jim and any Cougars fan that thinks that way is crazy. You already beat them! If the Huskies beat Penn State and Oregon it makes the Cougars win look better. It’s an absolute no brainer to root for Washington. Danny Kelly, The Ringer , who covers all things NFL pays Jason “Puck” Puckett a visit and they look back to the Seahawks loss to the Rams and the things they could have done better to secure the win. They jumped into the decision to go for it on 4th down and the play call that they went with. Can Ryan Grubb and the offense really get to their playbook if they can’t actually block? Puck asked Danny if after nine games it’s fair to question whether the decision to hire Mike Macdonald was the correct one? The team has been as sloppy as they have ever been. Is that the result of coaching? What about the future of Seahawks GM/President John Schneider? Under his tenure they have failed to address the offensive line and have had no plan at quarterback since Russell Wilson left. If they can’t turn this around in the next year or two, Schneider will find himself out of a job. Lastly, Danny answers your fantasy football questions as it’s “Waiver Wire Tuesday”. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com , drops by to talk all things college football. Do the Cougs have a realistic shot at 11-1 and squeaking into the College Football Playoff? What did Canzano think of Jim Moore’s thoughts about not rooting for UW, despite it benefiting the Cougars. Puck reiterates how crazy Jim is for thinking this way. Jake Dickert has been consistent to wanting to only coach ten more years and he’s made it clear that he wants it to be in Pullman. What is his contract status? Jim has all the info from inside the building on his current deal and what a future deal could deal could look like. When USC and Jen Cohen decide to fire Lincoln Riley, who does John think she will call first? Three big names and all with Northwest ties. Finally, John and Puck talk about how society has lost its civility and its ability to communicate and interact with one another. Latest examples were the Jason Kelce incident at Penn State and Joel Embiid with a Philadelphia columnist. Lastly, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Puck responds more to the lost civility in our society and addresses the recent layoffs at iHeartMedia and why he has never regretted his decision to leave the station he loved.
- Daily Puck Drop: Seahawks defense worse off under Mike Macdonald. Russell Wilson is back! Guests: Danny Kelly, The Ringer. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com
On today’s Daily Puck Drop , Jason “Puck” Puckett welcomes his weekly guests, Danny Kelly, from The Ringer and John Canzano from JohnCanzano.com Puck starts off the show addressing the Seahawks defense and just how bad it’s been this year and in fact it’s worse than it was last year under Pete Carroll. The whole reason you fired Carroll and to bring Macdonald in was to fix the defense. So far, Macdonald has not done that. Russell Wilson was vintage Russell Wilson last night and Puck that he was done forever in the league, but he’s happy to see what Wilson is doing and happy to be wrong…yet again! Danny Kelly, The Ringer, stops on by to chat about the NFL, Seahawks and to answer your fantasy football questions. Danny and Puck talk more about Wilson and both agree that he looked great on Monday against the Giants and agreed that no player believes in himself more than Russell Wilson. Puck and Danny try to figure out what’s wrong with the Seahawks defense. How can they be worse than they were last year? Are we starting to feel nervous about the Macdonald era or do we need to be patient with the new head coach? Have you had enough of Hail Mary talk? Puck and Danny are over the Commanders Hail Mary play breakdown on all the talking shows on TV. Listen, it was a Hail Mary. It was lucky. Move on! Danny offers his fantasy football advice on a waiver wire Tuesday. Lastly, a new feature for Puck and Danny, they put a player, coach, or team on the “Barge” each week. Last week they put the 49ers on it, but they have decided to rescue the Niners from the “Barge” after their win against Dallas. This week, Danny put Seahawks center Conner Williams on the Barge and Puck went with Colts QB Anthony Richardson for taking himself out of the game last week. John Canzano, from JohnCanzano.com drops by for his weekly visit to chat about all things college football. Puck and John start off the segment talking about the inexact science of college football polls and why they are so meaningless to begin a college football season. The problem with the polls is that they influence the way the media portrays certain teams. John is a Heisman voter, if John voted today, who would he give it too? Puck agrees with John’s pick. Do the Cougars have a realistic shot at the College Football playoffs? John is more optimistic than Puck…shocker! They also talk about the situation at Penn State with head coach James Franklin. How come coaches and schools can’t handle their public relations and communications better? Finally, John has new information on the Pac-12 reaching a deal with Octagon, a national company that will try and secure the Pac-12 a new media rights deal. Lastly, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Puck can’t believe the CEO of Taco Bell is a graduate of Washington State and he wants a Taco Bell inside the stadium and he wants NIL deals for all the athletes. In fact, he wants the field and stadium to be renamed after Taco Bell!
- Daily Puck Drop: Are the Sonics coming back next year? What fanbases are the worst? Weight limit in the NFL? Guests: Danny Kelly, The Ringer. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com
On today’s Daily Puck Drop , Jason “Puck” Puckett opens up the show talking about the return of the NBA and how much longer do Sonics fans need to wait before the return of our team? Will this year be the last year before the Sonics return? Adam Silver and the league at some point need to give Seattle something before patience wears out. Lebron and the Lakers tip the season off tonight and that means plays with his son Bronny. Unfortunately it’s just a spectacle because Bronny James has no business playing in the league right now. Bronny averaged 4 points and shot 29 percent from the floor. This is all about Lebron. It’s a selfish act and goes against everything that’s right about competition in sports. Danny Kelly, The Ringer joins the show to discuss the NFL, Seahawks and fantasy football advice. Danny and Puck ventured into the debate about Todd Bowles and did he make the right decision in keeping Chris Godwin in the game? They both agreed he’s receiving unwanted criticism. Is the future of the NFL a weight limit? Puck and Danny delve into the idea because athletes are getting much bigger as the years go on by. You see weight limits in youth football, could it happen in the NFL? DK Metcalf is having his best year. It’s great to see Metcalf finally reach his potential. Puck and Danny also introduce a new feature, “Barge of the Week.” Every week they’ll put a team or player on the barge, but they can always bring that player back if they want. For the first week they are putting the San Francisco 49ers on the barge. It appears that they are finally done. Lastly, Danny offers his fantasy football advice on “Waiver Wire Pickup”. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com joins the show for his weekly chat on all things college football. John and Puck discuss the worst fanbases in sports and the why the lunatic fringe of fanbases get all the attention. John tells Puck about the time a fan accosted him at a restaurant with his wife. Oregon is the new number one team in the country. How are they handling the attention and does John feel there is another loss coming soon? Washington faces Indiana this Saturday at 9am and some fans are complaining about another early start time, but this is what they get and should have expected when they took the money and left the Pac-12 behind. John and Puck agree this is very much a game that the Huskies can win because Indiana to this point has not been challenged. John attended basketball media day for the Mountain West and WCC, what did he hear and take away? Also, he sat down one on one with Mark Few and talked about Gonzaga joining the conference and who will the conference add as their eighth member? Few seemed to indicated to John that more schools are now attracted to the idea of joining the Pac-12. What about the Pac-12 media deal? John dishes on the latest that he’s hearing on that front and has an updated story on JohnCanzano.com on the latest. Finally, Puck wraps up with “Hey, What the Puck!?” Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles doesn’t deserve criticism for his handling of Chris Godwin. Rundown 0:00 NBA Season Kickoff, when are the Sonics returning? 12:41 The Future of the Sonics and NBA Expansion 16:18 LeBron and Bronny James: A made for television event. Danny Kelly ( @DannyBKelly ) of The Ringer joined The Fantasy Fullback Dive podcast for the first time to talk about his path to becoming a fantasy football expert and the 2020 fantasy football bounce back players to target or avoid this year. First, Danny Kelly talked about his path to The Ringer (0:03:45), then he discussed his fantasy rankings process (0:06:45), the impact of COVID-19 on fantasy football (0:10:59), and the analytics tools he uses to grade players and develop his rankings (0:14:15) Next, they get into the 2020 fantasy football bounce back players (0:17:33): Can JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner, two early-round picks last year, bounce back after miserable 2019 campaigns (0:17:54)? Then the two discuss three former first-round running backs who are entering make-or-break 2020 fantasy seasons (0:26:32). Following that conversation, Kelly and The Wolf talk about potential bounce back seasons for two Cleveland Browns who disappointed big-time in 2019 (0:38:46). Then to close out the segment, the two experts discuss a team's locked-in WR1 (0:44:46) and an oft-injured face in a new place who has the chance to take over the WR1 duties (0:47:07). To wrap things up, The Wolf of Roto Street Journal takes Danny Kelly through The Ringer, aka the Fantasy Football No-Huddle Offense (0:50:30) Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix283CDEyFY&
- Lessons from the Draft with Danny Kelly
Summary On this episode of The Most Accurate Podcast, Danny Kelly joins Greg to weigh in on the 2020 draft now that we've had another week to marinate in the results. Danny makes special note of the nearly unprecedented early run on offensive skill position players and then weighs in on some NFL teams with developing identities, including the Bengals and Broncos. Your hosts then discuss some non-fantasy players who should have a big impact on the fantasy game, including lineman from both sides of the ball. The bulk of this episode from there is spent dissecting the rookie wide receiver class. How should we balance optimism and pessimism for prospects in fantasy? Which teams are the best and worst at evaluating and drafting pass-catchers? Which rookie wideouts are currently undervalued? Your hosts weigh in on these questions and more, then they look to disappointments from past drafts to find corollaries to this season, in the hopes of avoiding potential traps. The show winds down with an accounting of some under-the-radar offenses worth investing in when drafting fantasy, both long-term for dynasty and short-term for redraft. - Let Russ Cook (guest: Danny Kelly)
Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) is joined this week by Danny Kelly of The Ringer (@DannyBKelly), who talks about his Seahawks fandom and the occasional frustration of seeing Russell Wilson manacled by Pete Carroll and Brian Schottenheimer. Danny and Pat compare notes on how they navigated the six-team bye-pocalypse in Week 10 and discuss the suddenly ample supply of streamable TEs. After writing a Ringer piece last week on the QB class of 2020, Danny offers some thoughts on Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa and whether the former leap-frogged the latter after LSU’s win over Alabama. Danny and Pat also discuss the futures of Cam Newton and Philip Rivers. Are Guinness and Jameson actually good, or do Irish-Americans just drink them for pub cred? Danny and Pat weigh in. They also discuss the state of the Chiefs’ backfield, the “RoJo rollout” in Tampa, the state of the Rams’ offense, and Cooper Kupp’s Irish exit in Week 10.
