  • The One about the Savings and Investments Union featuring former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta

EU Finance Podcast host Aidas Palubinskas chats with President Enrico Letta — former Prime Minister of Italy and President of the Jacques Delors Institute — about the Savings and Investments Union and what it means for European citizens and businesses. They cover fragmented financial markets, ten trillion euros in household savings doing too little, the case for stronger EU-level supervision, and whether today's geopolitical turbulence is finally creating the political will to act. President Letta's landmark report Much More Than a Market laid much of the intellectual groundwork for the EU's current approach — so there's no better person to ask whether Europe is finally on the right track.

Join Nonresident Senior Fellow Ilva Tare in this episode of #BalkansDebrief as she interviews Enrico Letta, former Prime Minister of Italy and current President of the Institut Jacques Delors. With his extensive experience in European Union affairs and his recent influential report on the future of the Single Market, Mr. Letta provides deep insights into the necessary reforms for successful EU enlargement. In this episode, Mr. Letta discusses his advocacy for the "Regatta Method" over the "Big Bang" approach for EU enlargement, emphasizing the importance of allowing each country to join when ready rather than waiting for the slowest in the region. He also elaborates on his proposed blueprint for EU enlargement success, which includes critical reforms such as on veto rules and the creation of a "solidarity enlargement facility." Discover the future of the EU and the vital steps needed to integrate the six Western Balkan countries into the new Single Market, as envisioned by Enrico Letta, a staunch advocate of enlargement in the Western Balkans.

  • BONUS EPISODE with "Mr Single Market": Enrico Letta

In April of this year, former Italian Prime Minister and current President of the Jacques Delors Institute, Enrico Letta released his much awaited report "Much more than a Market". It was the result of nearly a year's work - involving over 400 meetings with stakeholders across Europe - and received a lot of media coverage and attention from anyone who works in EU public affairs and policymaking. Across its 144 pages, the report highlights how the now 30 year old Single Market is incomplete, why and what can be done to overcome the remaining obstacles and deepen what is already the world's biggest single market. In this interview, we delve into how he approached the report, the reaction it received, the current context and the road ahead as a new 5 year EU institutional mandate beckons later this year. ****** Show Notes 21st Century Industrialists is produced by ERT and presented by Robert O'Meara.
