- Ep. 310 - Robert Plant with Jimmy Page NJ 1985
Eight days after the shambolic Live Aid reunion Jimmy Page joined Robert Plant onstage at the Brendan Byrne Arena, in East Rutherford, NJ. The contrast between the two gigs couldn't be greater. Robert's voice is virtually perfect and Jimmy's guitar (and Jimmy himself) are in tune. I play an aching beautiful Young Boy Blues from his then current Honeydrippers EP, and then I play the two encores Jimmy played with the band; the first being a standard blues number (I don't know if it has a name), and then a fiery run through of Treat Her Right, which calls back to when they jammed the same tune two years earlier. This is a great performance and a shining testimony to the viability of a Page/Plant collaboration even back then, when they sniped at each other in the press.
- Ep. 306 - Jimmy Page with Santana Frankfurt 1980 (Awesome)
On July 1, 1980 Santana played Frankfurt, Germany at the same venue in which Led Zeppelin played the night before. Jimmy Page hung around and attended the show, and even joined the band for a couple of tunes. What is noteworthy is how good the jams are. 1980 Jimmy can be very hit or miss. This is a hit. A hit out of the park. First of all Santana is an incredible band as is the recording (Master Soundboard) which was remastered by Dario Romero. They did a great job. I play a raucous and extremely tight Shake Your Moneymaker where Jimmy easily matches Carlos lick for lick. It's great. I then play Evil Ways which says it has Jimmy on it but I'm not too sure. Still a great performance from a great band.
- The Firm featuring Jimmy Page & Paul Rodgers
Jimmy Page was in rough shape by the end of Led Zeppelin. His addictions had ravaged his body and he didn't contribute nearly as much to 1979's In Through The Out Door as he did all previous Zeppelin records. After the death of John Bonham, Jimmy fulfilled his obligations to release Coda, provided the soundtrack to Death Wish 2 as a favor to his neighbor and embarked on a brief fundraiser tour with lots of legends - The ARMS Tour. But he hadn't been very creative and wasn't keeping himself in match shape. After spending some time with his Swan Song brother Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), he concocted a plan to put together a new supergroup for the 80s. WIth Rodgers handling vocal and primary songwriter duties, Jimmy also enlisted Chris Slade (Tom Jones, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, AC/DC, UAWIL #91 guest) and "The Fretless Monster" Tony Franklin who he worked with on Roy Harper's album Whatever Happened to Jugula? This powerful lineup was to be the vehicle that would rejuvenate Jimmy Page and put him back on the road to superstardom. However, Page's contributions weren't what fans had come to expect from the guitar hero and it seemed that Jimmy was a bit out of place in a world dominated by MTV. Single Radioactive was an AOR hit and showcased a bit of what the band could do, ultimately helping their self-titled debut to gold status in the US. But most of the album is uneven and Page isn't showing up with the killer solos that were his calling card. However, Tony Franklin is an absolute monster on this record, filling in the gaps that Page leaves between his flourishes and playing well off the ever steady Slade. While Rodgers vocals are as strong as ever, his songwriting doesn't quite live up to the standard of his previous bands. It was a solid debut which led to a strong sophomore effort in Mean Business (1986) but because it celebrates it's 40th on February 11, 2025, we thought we'd take a hard look at The Firm and why it didn't hit the heights we all hoped it would Check out our new website: Ugly American Werewolf in London Website Visit our sponsor RareVinyl.com and use the code UGLY to save 10%! - The worst album of all time? Steve shows two punk rockers a heavily panned album from 1970, featuring names such as JIMMY PAGE, JOHN BONHAM, JEFF BECK, & NOEL REDDING. Join us as we find out if LORD SUTCH AND HEAVY FRIENDS (1970) deserves its reputation.

If you'd like to follow along at home, check out this playlis t. Pause after Smoke and Fire for Side One. Check out this YouTube documentary. Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends is the debut album of English rock singer Screaming Lord Sutch . Recording began in May 1969 at Mystic Studios in Hollywood and it was released on Cotillion Records in 1970. The album featured an all-star line-up with contributions from Led Zeppelin 's Jimmy Page (who also produced the album) and John Bonham , guitarist Jeff Beck , session keyboardist Nicky Hopkins , session guitarist Deniel Edwards and Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Noel Redding . Rick Brown and Carlo Little were previously with the Savages. Many of the musicians had grave misgivings upon its release. They were under the assumption these were demo-quality recordings. As a result, the artists disowned the project and the album sold poorly. It also seriously damaged Sutch's reputation with the musicians involved. "I just went down to have a laugh, playing some old rock 'n' roll, a bit of a send-up. The whole joke sort of reversed itself and became ugly," Jimmy Page said of the record. A reviewer in Rolling Stone called Sutch "absolutely terrible" and lamented that the celebrated musicians involved were made to sound "like a fouled parody of themselves". - Wikipedia Support the show Check out our post-punk band The Alliterates new song The House Came Crashing Down on the Vol 1: Let's Begin compilation from Shift-Ctrl-Music Check out our cover of Child's Christmas in Wales (OG by John Cale) on Chaos For Christmas from Rejected Youth Records Steve's Website Our Instagrams Dave Steve The Alliterates Bluesky Dave Steve Facebook Steve The Alliterates Lucid Fugue Buy our theme song <a href='https://lucidfugue.bandcamp.com/track/non-euclidean-pornography'

- Self Care: Your One Word This Year with Jimmy Page and Dan Britton
Jimmy Page and Dan Britton are both leaders of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Jimmy is a speaker, author, triathlete, fitness leader, and co-author of three books: Wisdom Walks, Wisdom Walks Sports, and Pray Fit. He also hosts a weekly radio show called Fit Fridays. Jimmy is an adventure seeker, he went skydiving with each of his kids for their 18th birthday, and he loves Country Music! Dan is a speaker, author, and marathon runner. He is a former professional lacrosse player who has coauthored two books, Wisdom Walks and Wisdom Walks SPORTS. Dan is also the author and editor of eleven FCA books. Memorable Quotes: "And I remember just having to say no to a lot of things, getting rid of a lot of things that were probably pretty good things. But they weren't helping me make progress towards the most important things. So it began that journey of, as you say, simple changes that made a big shift or, in this case, a big difference in our lives." "And that's part of the beauty of "One Word" is God will do things in your life. If you're open to it, you'll see things happen. You'll be like, man, I did not see that coming when I picked this word, and that's a beautiful part of it." "We all have barnacles on us from life, whether it's what we're eating, who we're around, the thoughts we're having." "Now some days are better than others. But when we count each day and there's no wasted days, we develop a heart of wisdom." What You'll Learn: How to implement the concept of choosing one word to permeate your year and give you purpose and direction. This Episode Includes: The origin story of the One Word concept was born out of one challenging conversation with a friend. The first word Dan chose as his "One Word" in 2000 was "intimacy." Jimmy learned about the "One Word" concept from Dan during an accountability group session and it immediately clicked. Jimmy realized he needed to let go of the noise and focus. Jimmy and Dan share a few words their children have chosen in the past like "overflow" and "due." The duo shares how both of their families choose a word each year and make a painting of it on a canvas. Robin shares her word from 2021, which was surrender, and her new word for 2022. Dan and Jimmy coach Dr. Robin through the word she chose, "trust," and how to implement it in her life. Dan and Jimmy talk about the six dimensions: physical, mental, spiritual, relational, emotional, and financial. They relate it to Dr. Robin's four quadrants of wellbeing: mechanical, chemical, energetic, psychospiritual. It's important to remember your "One Word" throughout the year so it truly saturates your entire year, not just January 1st. Dan shares that his word for 2022 is "rattle." Jimmy is still praying about his word. Dan and Jimmy give several takeaways about choosing your "One Word" and how to implement it in your life. Three Takeaways From Today's Episode: Don't put too much pressure on choosing your "One Word" for 2022. Go through the process. Go through the three steps of looking in, looking up, and looking out to choose your word. Decide how you will ruminate on your word this year. Maybe it's painting the word on a canvas and hanging it in your bedroom or maybe it's buying a plaque with the word on it for your office. Whatever you choose, find a way to focus on your word throughout the year.
